Short answer is no. There isn't a way to export it to Second Life.

If your model conforms to certain requirements, then you can export it to Second Life as a sculptie (aka sculpted prim), but most models don't meet these requirements.

In most cases, a model must be created specifically for Second Life to ensure that it is a valid sculpted prim.

Hello, I made a katana with multiple objects included splines (extruded) etc I'm wondering if there's a way to export it in second life, I can't work with basic second life prims... I read in the official webpage that there're different methods but I have no clue if they actually work properly for what I need, because I read that you can get messed up sculpties on sl. I hope you can help me, any answer would be really appreciated.

Maxproxy must be used in conjunction with a Second Life viewer. Click here, for more information. It currently works best with the 1.x series of viewers.

If it fails to download all of the textures, you can get them by logging out of Second Life and then running maxport on the exported project using the

--export-textures

command line option.

I tried searching the forums, but it doesn't seem that anybody else is having this problem.

I'm setting up a new Linux box and that gave me an opportunity to play with MySQL Workbench.

Looks pretty easy so far. The key step is to setup a new server instance.

That will add a new item in the Server Administration list that you can click on to connect to your mysql server to create schemas, users, etc.

Hello,

Great :) The real trouble begin when you bend your model. The perfection is lost because of the sculpty grid limitations. Check the script and tuts in my signature if you want to work with precision.Wish you luck.

I just hope that they dont mess up meshes amd keep it all on a KISS theory I figured making sculpties would be on some level like doing modeling for the games and ads I work with, boy way I wrond lol

Hello,

I've played a bit with your shape and i've created something that you can inspect:

http://amisima.s3.amazonaws.co...../prims.rar

Just import the .hpa in max.

Nothing fancy is used. Started with 16x16 cyl , from top view aligned the verts. Than sized to 0 one of the borders and made it planar on Z. Subdivided to 32x32. Fixed the shape. The tricky part is to adjust the edge/poly loops scale and position to minimize the dark shadows in the viewport. I've used yellowish standard material to spot them. I can make a screencast when i have more time ,it's not a trick but playing around.

Bottom line sculpties are not designed for sharp edges and arch modelling :(

But with some strange manoeuvres you can make those shadows less spotable.

Hope it's helpful

Best regards

Are the shadows in the baked texture or are they being rendered by the viewer?

You can test this by setting the texture to fullbright in world. If the shadows go away, then the shadows are being rendered by the viewer, but are not in the baked texture.
