Shack,
you made a great tool I was waiting for a long time :).
But I am experiencing the same problem as above in the Second Life grid, both on the real grid and the beta grid.
Looking from my alts perspective I see is the cloud of a rezzing avi and then Maxport starts to try to rez the object even before the avi is totally rezzed.
I wonder if a timer can do the trick, first let the avi be totally rezzed and then let the maxport do its work.
I dont have my owm land but was trying to do it on rented land and in a sandbox. Both did not work out.
I am sure there is a simple explanation for it and hope you can help us out
regards
Black

whatever it is, it has nothing to do with the avi being rezzed.
The avi never rez's for me either (I should put that in the FAQ). The avi rezzing thing is a clothing issue with the version of libsl I'm using (I think). But we don't need the avi's clothing. It works fine for me without the clothing.
Albert's problem could be the version of OpenSim being used. For OpenSim to work, it requires a very recent version of OpenSim. (I'm using revision 5222).
Black, your problem could be related to the land ownership issue. I assume that you can rez a prim when you login yourself.
I'll test in a sandbox to be sure that it works there. I'll post more about this later tonight. Got to go for now…

Black,
could you give me location of the sandbox you tried?
I tried it in Cordova on the main grid and didn't have any problems. I also did a lot of my development testing in Ahern on the Beta Grid.

Hello again, Shack. Well I tried the maxport with the OpenSim's versions 5.4 and the 5.5. I didn't tried with the 5.2.2, with the same “Timed out waiting for prim… messages”.
Well, my SL-Sister Asha, and Impalah, when they started to test their Henshing, was hard too. The big innovations have this things. Just now I start my holidays, in 20 dyas I am going to tst your fantastic bridge tool again. see you later.

Anyone who is having the same problem on OpenSim should definitely read the Prim Composer FAQ.
When I was doing development, I couldn't get any of the prebuilt OpenSim releases to work. Tried 0.5.5. Only a very recent build that I got out of subversion worked. Your copy of OpenSim has to be around or later than the 5222 revision in subversion (Note: this has nothing to do with the 0.5.2.2 release).
UPDATE (2008-07-04): I just tried the 0.5.8 OpenSim official build from here. Works great and it is pre-built, so that you don't have to compile it yourself. Give it a try.

Black,
I've tried a couple more things to try to reproduce the problem. I tried maxport on an older laptop that connects to my home network wirelessly. No problems.
Obviously, there is something different in your setup. Possibilities include your computer, network, internet connection, the sim that you're connecting to. I don't know.
The fact that you are able to see maxport login and even see the avatar in world, eliminates several things. My best guess at the moment is that maybe you are experiencing significant packet loss through your internet connection.
It's difficult for me to either make a diagnosis or fix it when I can't reproduce it. Anything that you can tell me about your computer, internet connection, framerates in SL, etc. would be helpful.

Shack,
Thank you for your effort so far.
I did a test in ahern, the betagrid where you have been testing:
ping 172, 35 pfs, 300 kbps, no packet loss
Dual core on Vista, 4mb
I logged the file:
D:\maxport>maxport -f Black -l Nimbus -p **** -t -i “d:\exp\test1\test1.xml”
Maxport: Copyright 2008 Shack Dougall. All rights reserved. Homepage: http://liferain.com/downloads/primcomposer/
projectName: test1, sculptmapsDir: d:\exp\test1\sculptmaps\

As you can see no results although I think the connection is good. Tried it with my alt too, same result. Maybe something in the commandline I did wrong?

Your command line is fine. I'm testing using XP, but I ran a test today on Vista and that doesn't seem to be a problem.
The only thing that I see is that your ping is more than twice what mine is. My ping runs around 70-80ms.
In any event, I'm putting together a new version that has a lot more diagnostic output. I was hoping to finish it today, but it looks like it won't be ready until tomorrow. I'll post again when that's ready.

Black,
I just released 1.0 Beta 2. Only maxport changed. Try it out and see what happens. I don't expect it to solve your problem, but it might provide some new information. Please post the output in this thread.
Thanks!

Regarding OpenSim. Try the official 0.5.8 OpenSim build from here. It's very recent (released 2008-07-01) and worked great in my tests.

Hi everyone,
i'm trying to import in SL with Maxport some prims and sculpted made with primcomposer in 3DS Max 2008 and i met the same problem of timeout during rezzing operation.
I tried in a lot of sandboxs but the result is ever the same.
i noticed that when i went inword after failed rezz, all prims were sent back in my inventory lost and found folder cause of they went off-world.
Can someone help me?

I think I solved this problem earlier today. The fix will be in Beta 3 which I will be releasing later this afternoon (probably in the next hour).
If I'm right, it is a localization problem that causes the xml file to be parsed incorrectly. It affects non-US locales that use the comma instead of a dot to express floating point numbers, e.g., 2,0 versus 2.0.
This is consistent with your observation about the prims going off-world because it incorrectly parses the position information and ends up with coordinates that are off-world.
I hope that I fixed it in Beta 3. I'll post again here after Beta 3 is released.

Beta 3 is released.
This should fix the “Timed out waiting for rez” bug. Only maxport changed. You don't need to re-install the 3ds Max scripts.
Please let me know how it goes.
Enjoy!

Siiiiiii, sorry: Yeeesss. During this break in the middle of my holidays, arrive at home, receive your mail, test the new Beta 3, and it works great in OpenSim .
You had done a really great work. When I come back from holidays, I am going to write about your Prim Composer and a tutorial for the spanish community.
Really it's as great tool, and with it, and than in the next OpenSim version, OpenSim should support common standards for 3D modelling. This would allow the upload of existing 3D models and make OpenSim immediately attractive for architects and project developers and their customers (walk through models).(http://opensimulator.org/wiki/OpenSim:Future_Release_Discussion) OpenSim is going to be the future (with the teleport developpment from SL to OS). It's going to be easier to offer to a client an island in OS, with a city, than a building in SL.
Thanks again for your work, Shack.
