Hi,

What i mean is if i make a low poly model wich only need i.e. a 8x8 Grid i want to export it as 8x8.

I can do this with the sculpshape, model and get a nice 16x16 map, so no problem at first.

If i import to Opensim or SL it looks ok, but if i relog always the smaller maps are still at their size (16x16 i.e.) but they changed and thats made the sculpty way lesser "correct" (vertex position).

Only a 64x64 (1024 Polys) map dont change and always look the same.

Must i realy always use 1024 Polys even if the Model only need 256 i.e.? Thats a total waste of Performance (lots of unneeded Polys) and Traffic (a 16x16Map is way smaller than a 64x64).

I hope there is some kind of solution for this ^^

You can't right now. I've asked Shack about this, he seems to be on a vacation. Let me know if you find a solution. Good luck.

The interesting thing would be what change on the server with the smaller images, if we know that we can maybe find a solution.

I have done some research: http://jira.secondlife.com/bro…..e/VWR-8551

Very great LL, the Bug exists then a Year or more and still no fix.

And this would be such an great performance increase and traffix decrease, i realy dont know why they dont do something… thats realy bad

O and instead of fixing they destroy their client even more: http://liferain.com/downloads/…..kes-again/

Deadmaster, thanks for digging up the bug report.

I ran a few experiment on this topic, and found a half solution. lol. Here it goes

1. create a 16×16 sphere via SculptShape's Final Resolution.

2. Set Sculptmap Algorithms Low Rez to Hard, default is smooth. (in PrimsComposer Preference->Export References) Ignore restart 3ds max warning.

3. Generated a sculpt map of the sphere, which is a 64×64 sculpt map.

4. Reduce sculpt map to 32×32 in Photoshop and save as BMP

5. Upload it with “Use losseless compression” check OFF, not a typo, keep it off.

6. You have a 16×16 sculpt shpere in SL, with a minimum deformation.

Normally with Hard Low Rez setting, a lossless sculpt map would give you a hard edge shape. With SL image compression, it actually smooths out the hard edge sculpt map. I just ran a simple shpere test and have not test complex form yet. This half solution might be good enough for some forms.
