While trying to install SculptGenMax 1 rc4 in 3ds max 2009, I have got the following message:

>> MAXScript MacroScript Error Exception: — Compile error: Nested macroScript definitions are not permitted
– In line: macroScript S <<

Forgive me if I ask obvious questions here. I don't have max2009, so I have to debug this problem through you.

The installation procedure is to:

  1. copy the “primcomposer” folder to “stdscripts”.
  2. restart 3ds Max.
  3. run script “SculptGenMax.ms”.

I'm assuming that all goes well when you restart 3ds Max. right? And you get this error when you try to run “SculptGenMax.ms”?

Oh, and another basic question. Is this the first time that you've used SculptGenMax?

I did a quick google of the error message: “Nested macroScript definitions are not permitted”.

In both cases where people were getting this problem with other scripts, it was because the person was trying to drag-and-drop the script. That won't work. So, if you are trying to drag-and-drop, don't.

Use the MAXScript menu and select “Run Script…”, then select “SculptGenMax.ms” to run it.

You are right. I did not follow the installation procedure properly. After I ran the script, there was no visual response, so I assumed that something went wrong, and tried to drag and drop the script.

It seems to work fine now.

Thank you for the fine script and for your quick response. If I may add some feedback, a message that notifies the novice user that all is right, and what should be done next might be helpful.

Glad it's working!

Yep, good idea about the message. I'll see what I can do.
