Prims are imported into SL using the Maxport command line utility. The steps are as follows:
Step 1: create prims and sculpties in 3ds Max.
Step 2: save prims and sculpties to local disk using the Prim Composer > Export menu in 3ds Max.
Step 3: upload the prims to Second Life using Maxport.
In Step 1, in the latest version of Prim Composer, you do not need to use SculptGenMax. Instead, create sculpties using the SculptMap and SculptShape buttons or create a mesh from scratch and convert it to a sculptie using the Prim Composer > Convert menu in 3ds Max.
For information about using Maxport, please refer to the video called “Using Maxport to upload builds to OpenSim and Second Life” on the Prim Composer Video Tutorials Page. There is also a Maxport reference page that describes the command line options for Maxport. This thread also has some basic information about how to use Maxport.
If you need additional help, please describe in detail what you are doing and the results that you see.
