Hi! I have other problem with max. SO, when im creating simple object, like box and then modyfie it everything works perfect. Problems starting when i wanna create something with a few objects. When im creating a sculp map - it is only one object in it. Lets take a snowman as an exaple, it has 3 balls. When im creatind a sculp map and import it to sl there is only one ball in. How to make it like one piece object? i was trying a few option i know but nth works. Is there any way 4 doing it or i have to modyfie one simple prim to get a shape i need? Thank you 4 help

Good question.

There are a couple of ways to look at this problem, but I’ll start by explaining what SculptGenMax does. SGM takes one object in 3dsMax and creates one sculptmap from it.

The snowman is a good example because it is composed of 3 separate, but similar objects.

One way to create a snowman would be to start by creating a snowball in 3dsMax. Use SGM to generate a sculptmap. Upload the sculptmap to SL. Then create 3 prims in SL and apply the same snowball sculptmap to each one. Then, resize the prims in SL so that they are different sizes and arrange them into a snowman shape. They can then be linked so that they behave as a single object, though they are actually 3 separate prims.

In a week or two, I’ll be releasing Prim Composer which will allow you to take a somewhat different approach. With PC, you can create the snowman in 3dsMax and transfer it directly to SL.

One way to do that would be to create a 3dsMax snowball as before. Then, copy it twice in in 3dsMax making two new instances of it. Then, in 3dsMax, resize the 3 snowballs and arrange them into a snowman. At this point, you could use PC to export the scene to SL. PC will recreate the snowman in SL using one sculptmap to create 3 prims in SL and will arrange them in exactly the same way as they were in 3dsMax. The difference here is that we are able to create the snowman entirely offline in 3dsMax before uploading it to SL. But it still uses 3 prims in SL.

If what you want to do is to create one sculptmap that represents the entire snowman, so that the snowman will be 1 prim in SL, then you need to do something more complicated. Basically, what you will have to do in 3dsMax is to start with a basic shape such as a cylinder or a plane and then re-shape that into a snowman. You can’t start with 3 balls. You have to start with one object and then re-shape it so that it looks like 3 balls.
